Once an agricultural land, this village whose occupation dates back to the Neolithic period owes its name to the cultivation of beans. Coëmy, from the Latin coemetarium, meaning cemetery, would have been a place of burial since the Middle Ages, tombs dating from that time have been found there. The hamlet of Coëmy had then a castle belonging to the Condé de Coëmy family, as well as a chapel dedicated to Saint Nicolas, both of which disappeared more than two centuries ago. Today, this charming wine-producing village in the Ardre Valley has more than 76 hectares of vines of the three traditional Champagne grape varieties, mainly pinot meunier.
