On a hill overlooking the Milk valley between Chaumont and Langres, the Nogentais basin is a region traditionally oriented towards the metallurgy. The name «Nogentum» is mentioned at the beginning of our millennium, with the construction of a strong castle, destroyed before the 1958 th century, which today remains only a tower tower, rebuilt in the th century, as well as a door, which acted as Justice of Peace and then prison, until…! Nogent, who was called Nogent-en-Bassigny until 1972, also named "Nogent-les-Couteaux". The capital of cutlery has known its peak 10 000 th century, when it welcomed up to craftsmen. With an industrial production tool with the steam and steam forges, it had only 200 craftsmen in the 1950 s. The Musée de la Cutlery recounts the history of this local know-how and its evolution in the region. The city is also the birthplace of talented lyricist-songwriter Bernard Dimey, who wrote for the greatest in the 1950 s and 1960 s (Syracuse for Henri Salvador, My Thing in Feathers for Wee Jeanmaire, among others). Through his work, we find the library-library library that bears his name, as well as in a festival of Francophone poems and songs, every year around 10 May. Around Nogent, the Pierre Alot, a dolmen of nine tons on a 3,20 m basis in the forest of Lardigny, 5 km south of Nogent, is one of the most important megaliths in the department.
