Basilica of Saint-Urbain in Troyes, built with finesse, verticality and lightness, by order of Pope Urban IV
This church, one of the ten of Troyes, bears the name of the Trojan pope Jacques Pantaleon, who became Urban IV. The construction began with the collegiate church in 1262; it continued until the 14th century and its facade was not completed until the beginning of the 20th century. According to experts, it is one of the three most perfect Gothic buildings in the world. The Basilica of Saint-Urbain was built in the Champagne radiating Gothic style between 1262 and 1286, by order of Pope Urban IV. Saint-Urbain is built with finesse, verticality and lightness.
