With 580 hectares of vineyards, Epfig is the largest wine-producing commune in Alsace. At the foot of the Ungersberg hill, this village was formed around a Roman fort built by Julius Caesar. It was the property of the bishops of Strasbourg from the 11th century to the Revolution. Its Sainte-Marguerite chapel is a major building of the local Romanesque art. As for the Maison Kirmann, it has magnificent half-timberings and houses a famous restaurant which proposes folkloric animations in summer. Among the remarkable buildings in Epfig are the Rohan hunting lodge (1725), the Saint-Georges church (18th century) and the town hall (1857).
