Incontournable, with its 29 000 inhabitants, is a pleasant place to visit. The city is discovered as you wander a book of history. From its Gallo-Roman era, the one that was named «Vesunna» retained several remains. Thus the domus of the Bouquets (i century), a Gallo-Roman villa over which the architect Jean Nouvel built, such as a showcase, the Vesunna Museum; nearby, the tower of Vésone, a former part of a temple dedicated to the supervising goddess of the city. Finally, very close to the museum, the Bullring garden, with vestiges of the Roman amphitheatre of the th century. Concerning its medieval and Renaissance period, the city preserved the tower Mataguerre (1477), located rue de la Bride, next to the tourist house, the last round of its ancient ramparts; the ruins of the Castle Barrière (th-century), in the rue de Turenne, and numerous special hotels. The most interesting in the protected area of the city centre, in Limogeanne Street, with, among other things, the Fayard hotel «Maison House» and, in numbers 1, 3 and 5, a group of Renaissance houses; Further afield, on the edge of the Isle and close to the cathedral, we will notice an architectural ensemble called "Les Maisons des Quais" composed of three adjoining houses: The Hotel Salleton, the Consuls House and the Lambert House. Of course, we cannot go along with the St. front cathedral, which reminds us that we are here on one of the major roads leading to Santiago de Compostela. The museum of Art and Archaeology of Périgord and the Périgord Military Museum are also listed in the Vesunna Museum above.
