Montignac sur Vézère is known all over the world since the discovery in 1940 of the Lascaux cave, near the village. Its position on the Vézère valley is not a coincidence. As a main communication axis, it was necessary to control this valley. That is why a castle, that of the counts of Périgord, locked the passage. It was the scene of several sieges during the Hundred Years War and the Wars of Religion. Montignac still conceals old houses, including those located on the banks of the Vézère, which are very exposed to the river's floods. Every year in July, Montignac hosts the Festival Cultures aux cœurs, a festival of dances and music from around the world
