Montagrier has known a history rich in twists and turns: Gallo-Roman castrum, feudal castle, invasion of the Normans who probably destroyed its priory, English stronghold during the 100 years war... Some traces of these adventures remain. Above all, the church of Sainte-Madeleine, built on the spot that was probably the site of the old priory, shows its particular beauty. Indeed, its clear stone makes it luminous, its bell tower and its two apsidioles, as well as its cloverleaf plan, make it a unique church in Dordogne. To the north, the small chapel of Saint-Sicaire is just as pretty and has sculptures on the façade dating from the 13th century
