A former stronghold of the Alaman family based on a former monastery, Monthou-sur-Cher stands out by its Renaissance castle with the particularity of possessing an imperial tower, an architectural rarity in excellent conservation condition. In the past, the small village was part of the Valley of the Sucker, because it had twelve mills and there were eleven of them between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries. Today, there are ten, and for some, there are only ruins that are considered with interest. With its rivers (the Bavet and the Anguilleuses), its hiking trails and its traditional fountains, this small quiet village will ease the visitor's passing.
