Cave discovered in 1901, considered as a major sanctuary of the Magdalenian culture in Eyzies-de-Tayac-Sireuil.
Les Eyzies and its surroundings are known as the world capital of Prehistory. On the left bank of the Beune river, this cave discovered in 1901 is considered a major sanctuary of the Magdalenian culture (-13,000 years). It contains more than 600 rock figures, most of them engraved. Its bestiary represents a very diversified fauna which informs us about prehistoric animal species and the beliefs of our ancestors. There are some anthropomorphic representations and tectiform signs. See also the National Museum of Prehistory.
