A small commune in the Loir-et-Cher with a population of about 800, Authon belongs to what is known as the "Gâtine tourangelle", an agricultural region consisting of a vast limestone plateau and valleys. You can admire the château du Fresne, built in the 18th century in place of an old 16th century seigniorial house. The castle and its gardens are regularly open to visitors during the summer months. It is in the chapel of the castle that Anne-Aymone Sauvage de Brantes and Valéry Giscard d'Estaing were married religiously in 1952. It is also in this castle that the former President of the Republic died in December 2020.
