The known origins of Sennely, from the Latin Seneliacum, are ancient. In 1160, Louis VII subjected its inhabitants to the customs of Lorris and, in 1180, Sennely was an estate of the Count of Blois and Grand Seneschal of France. In 1562 the Duke of Guise laid siege to Sully, Sennely, then a base camp for his troops, was destroyed by fire. From that time on, it lost its notoriety and became a small town. In the 1970s, the disappearance of agriculture caused the population to fall. Today it has 680 inhabitants. Its red brick houses are a reflection of this region which experienced its great expansion during the Second Empire.
