Meung-sur-Loire is an intriguing town. It has retained its medieval character, reminiscent of the Roman de la Rose , the second part of which was written by Jean de Meung. As we approach the château, François Villon seems to appear, as he is well acquainted with the underside of this impressive edifice. Gaston Couté, the libertarian poet, is also buried here. An arboretum honors holly and a garden cultivates old roses. The Mauves irrigate this land, which is good for garden squares and old-fashioned mills... Jules Maigret retired here. He and Simenon can sometimes be found strolling together in the Courtils des Mauves..
