On the borders of the Gâtinais region, Courtenay is built on a hill whose summit is crowned by the castle, built in 1774 on the foundations of the old manor of the Sires de Courtenay. Birthplace of the poet-songwriter Aristide Bruant (1851-1925), famous for his Ballade du chat noir, this great poet of the slang of the end of the XIXth and the beginning of the XXth century is at the origin of the so-called realistic song. We owe him a proud candle... transformed into Bruandines, candies named after him. Today, fishing, golf, swimming, hiking trails, horseback riding are practiced in Courtenay... without forgetting the flea markets, fairs and other shows!
