The human presence is proven in Courcelles since the Bronze Age. The Middle Ages saw the construction of a fortified castle which was pillaged during the Hundred Years' War. It was burned by the Prussians during the 1870 war and by the Germans in 1940. Saint-Louis, Charles VII and Anne of Brittany lived there. There is also an astonishing choir dating from the 15th century which attracts the eye, the pillars presenting in the void a trinity of arches, and then the bridge of the 15th century spanning the Rimarde which takes its source in the forest of Orleans. A royal town... Could it be for this reason that we say, since the end of 2018: Courcelles-le-Roi?
