Château-Renard is a town in the former county of "poor Gâtinais". It is dominated by the remains of its 10th-century feudal castle. A second 17th-century château, known as Château de la Motte, stands in the middle of the town and has been listed as a Monument Historique since 1945. The Maison Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc House) is well worth a visit, with its distinctive timber-framed facade. It dates from the 15th century. On the northern outskirts of town (D37 - Route de Chuelles), the Musée vivant de l'apiculture explains all the mysteries of the world of bees and flowers for a nature break.
