At first it was the mills (wheat, wheat or tan for the leather craft industry) on the banks of the rivers that made the town prosper, then in 1851 the rubber factory was to have a profound effect. The lack of manpower after the First World War brought in a large population of Russians and Ukrainians. This tradition of welcome will continue and Châlette-sur-Loing will then see the arrival of Spaniards fleeing the war, Yugoslavians, Portuguese, North Africans followed by Turks and Africans. This continuous immigration for nearly a century makes the particularity that counts 35 nationalities in its heart.
