Beaulieu-sur-Loire owes its name to the Latin bellus locus (this explains why many towns are named Beaulieu in France). Here and there, many wells bring back its medieval past. The town hall is located in a house that belonged to the canons of Bourges. The 14th century timber-framed house is topped by a square dovecote. The building is a landmark of the city and has preserved a singular interior architecture (beams, chimney and spiral staircase in the adjoining dovecote). Halfway between Beaulieu and Châtillon, there is the castle of Assay, dating from the 14th century, but also the pyramidal barn of the hamlet of Brosses from the 17th century.
