Best known for its castle, the commune of Jumilhac-le-Grand jealously guards a precious metal in its subsoil. Gold was already mined by the Gauls in their time. The parish church of Saint-Pierre-ès-Liens, built in the 20th century, is a beautiful building, largely Romanesque: north and south transepts, nave, Gothic façade and choir. A superb Limousin octagonal bell tower stands at the transept crossing. Jumilhac-le-Grand is also a land of writers. Eugène Le Roy, author of Jacquou le Croquant, was a tax collector in Jumilhac, where he married. The house where he lived can be seen on the château square.
