This small village, located between Saint-Astier and Villamblard, remains an enigma. Some say that it comes from Jupiter, no less, and to a Roman temple built there in honor of the "father of the gods". Others claim that Jaure comes from the name of a Gallic character called in its Latinized form Gabrus, in Celtic Gabrios, which would mean the goatherd. In the village, the water that comes out of the fountain is reputed to have beneficial virtues. Another mystery! As for the castle, it was built on the remains of the famous temple. In the 19th century, the building was the property of a Russian general, Obroutchev, aide-de-camp to the Russian tsar. That's all there is to it!
