In the 6th century, Gregory of Tours Montlouis under the name of Mons Laudium. In 1520, Philibert Babou, big money of Francis I, and his wife Marie Gaudin, built the castle. The vine appears since the5th century in the surroundings of Tours. The AOC was created in 1938 and covers 350 hectares of white Chenin, or "Pineau de Loire". Being navigable until 1843, Montlouis was a port from which wine, tuffeau, butter and bacon left. Montlouis-sur-Loire has a rich history acquired over the centuries by many buildings such as the castle of Bourdaisière or the castle of Thuisseau.
