Ten kilometers west of Tours, on the right bank of the Loire, Luynes boasts a rich archaeological and historical heritage dating back to Gallo-Roman times. Its aqueduct is one of the most remarkable features. This imposing structure has undergone several restorations, leading historians to believe that it was in use for a long time. Some of its remains are still visible. Like most of Touraine, Luynes also has its own château, but this one has always belonged to the family of the Dukes of Luynes. It's a fortress built between the 12thand 17th centuries on a rocky spur with terraced gardens.
