Played-lès-Tours is one of the oldest communes of Indre-et-Loire. His name bears witness to these many changes: In the fifth century, Grégoire de Tours called it «Gaudiacum» or «Jocondiacensis Domus» abbreviated in «Jocondiacum».From 900 to 1760, the town of Play passed into the hands of various lords, counts and archbishops such as Richard (Archbishop of Bourges), Thibault (Earl of Blois), or Gilbert (Archbishop of Tours). Until the beginning of the th century, the main axis of the city is the ancient Roman route Tours-Poitiers which then became one of the roads of the road of Santiago de Compostela. For a long time, the jocondien space was a vast rural area on which some houses regrouped around an area or vineyard.
