It is one of the most important towns in the area, with a little over 1,900 inhabitants. Avoine is known as the cradle of French civil nuclear power, which delivered the first gigawatters to the electrical grid in 1963. Unjustly named Chinon nuclear power plant, it is located on the edge of Avoine. A provider of electricity and jobs, this plant has left its mark on history, the landscape and local life. The first reactor, in the shape of a ball, now deactivated, houses the atom museum and is regularly illuminated by light shows. Avoine is also home to the headquarters of the community of communes of Chinon Vienne et Loire. Also in Avoine is the Jardin de Rabelais, a producer of cherry tomatoes with 4,000 tons per year and 300 employees! The Mousseau lake, a 3 ha fishing pond, a site for relaxation and romantic walks, is also located in Avoine. A playground for children has been set up there. Teenagers can have fun on the pumptrack. Avoine is also distinguished by the presence of food shops, restaurants and charming accommodations. Outside the town, in a secluded natural setting on the banks of the Indre, the Bamboche du Néman brings together local residents and visitors in a friendly and festive atmosphere. More than one occasion to join Avoine, to which are added recurring events such as the Avoine Zone Groove festival, the Christmas market, a Sunday in the country, the Republic Day, the summer podium or the Chess Open.
