This small medieval town owes its current location to a priory from the end of the 11th century. Founded in 1270, it took on its present appearance under English rule and suffered a terrible battle in 1377. After the Hundred Years' War, it was one of the high places of the reformed cult. Eymet is situated in a meander of the Dropt. A Romanesque bridge over the fish-filled waters can be admired there. The houses of the 15th and 16th centuries are organized around a square with arcades and a hall, they form an admirable architectural ensemble with the half-timbered houses and the fortified castle. Eymet, a French bastide town nowadays lives with a strong English presence.
