On the night of Saturday, June 11 to Sunday, June 12, 49 people were killed (plus the killer himself) and 53 injured in Orlando in the nightclub Le Pulse, a well-known LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer) club in Orlando.

This tragedy is both a terrorist attack and a homophobic killing because it is now a fact that the terrorist Omar Sateen harboured a real hatred for gays long before he took action.

But this tragedy did not happen in just any state in America. It took place in Florida, where gays have long been perfectly integrated into society and where homophobia is almost non-existent.

You only have to go to one of the mythical drag queen shows in Key West to find out or even go to the Palace Bar in Miami, which is located on Ocean Drive, to dance with a transsexual singer. In Fort Lauderdale, one of Florida's largest cities, there is even an office in the Tourist Office that specifically deals with the LGBTQ community, and it is the only office of its kind in the United States.

Therefore, attacking the gay community in Florida is all the more shocking because here, more than anywhere else, this kind of crime was truly unimaginable ..

But Orlando is also the realm of dreams, the realm of amusement parks, Disneyworld and Universal Studios. We come to Orlando to escape and live in a bubble where wonder takes precedence over reality. But since the tragedy, Orlando has lost his innocence and the history of the city will forever be marked by this terrible shooting.

The whole team of Le Petit Futé shares the sadness of the families and we all think of the victims with great emotion.

For our part, we will continue to list all the LGBT places in Florida and there will even be new ones in the next guide. With all due respect to the lunatics for whom the difference is a death sentence.
