BOULEVARD DES PYRÉNÉES
Read moreTo capture the magic of the city of Pau, this is an unmissable walk. Facing the Pyrenees, two kilometers of pure wonder await you, from the gates of the castle to the Beaumont park, on this suspended terrace of 72 arches. The view is panoramic, so rare that it has been classified and protected since 1944 under the name "Horizons palois"! The bars, restaurants and tea rooms that you will meet have a very particular soul, do not hesitate to take place in terrace, they are among the most beautiful of the city. The boulevard des Pyrénées was created following a visit by Napoleon Bonaparte in 1808. He was the first to mention the possibility of creating a promenade along the mountains. It was not until 1893 that the mayor Henri Faisans began the work that was completed in 1899. The objective was to develop foreign tourism and to make the city pleasant for visitors, especially in winter: today, we know that it was a total success! The funicular, created in 1908, is no stranger to this, it connects the station to the city and keeps this unique charm of the beginning of the last century. Below, the river Gave crosses the plain, the view goes over the hillsides of the Jurançon vineyards and the Pyrenees on a clear day offer a masterful view. One never tires of walking along this avenue, strolling and contemplating the horizon, whatever the season. An obligatory place of passage where Palois and tourists meet!

THE BURG
Read moreThanks to a leaflet handed out by the Tourist Office you can walk along the narrow streets of the old town. At the entrance of the main street a museum relates the history of the city to that of the Viscount of Turenne allowing you to discover the secrets and wonders of this pretty market town. Rue du Commandant Charollais, the Courrèze house, the seat of the Viscount States in the 17th century, the Hall place (destroyed in 1952), the Vachon house with dovecote and decorated bays (formerly the house of the consuls of Turenne in the 16th and 17th centuries), the hotel Carbonnières of Louis XIII style with turret and watchtower… or even the Chapitre house, in rue Joseph Rouveyrol, remarkable for its flamboyant Gothic style door with pinnacles. Towards the hill, the Calvaire tower recalls the 3rd enclosure. The fortified gate leads to the 2nd house of the Sénéschal and the chapel of the Capucins (1643), hosting exhibitions. From the esplanade surrounding the limestone cliffs, you enjoy a superb view that you can take the time to admire, sitting on a bench.

THE MEDIEVAL VILLAGE
Read moreYou are here in one of the most beautiful villages in France, organized around a Benedictine monastery. Don't sulk your pleasure in strolling through its old streets and alleys where you will discover the seigneurial residences of the Dukes of Noailles, Verneuil and the Cars family, the castles and fortified houses built in blond limestone and covered with flat Perigordian tiles and Corrèze slates, mullioned windows, old walls decorated with succulent and flowering plants, and lovely gardens. Don't hesitate to go around the church to admire its chevet, its sculpted capitals, the lantern of the dead and the defensive square tower and to go to the end of the terrace: you will be rewarded by the vast view of the Yssandonnais and the Brive basin which is ideal for daydreaming. On the square there is a mission cross bearing all the instruments of the Passion of Christ. Go down below the village to the good fountain of Saint-Maurice, which according to the legend gives back beauty and vitality.
