MAIRIE DE NÉRAC
Read moreThe history of the municipal building has not always been a long and quiet one. In the Middle Ages, the building serving as the town hall was located in Rue de l'Ecole. In 1611, it fell prey to a fire caused by the explosion of a gunpowder reserve. The fire destroyed many documents, including the archives of the castle of Nerac. It was rebuilt with a belfry and a bell to alert in case of other disasters. Restored by the city, the building has been listed as a historical monument since 2008. The current town hall is located at Place du Général de Gaulle.
HÔTEL DE VILLE
Read moreThe elected representatives have occupied this building since the end of the thirteenth century, which alone bears the spirit of independence of the city. Many Rochelais remember the terrible images of June 28, 2013, where a violent fire destroyed much of the building. The municipality wants to reopen this building to the public as a jewel of the Renaissance, one of the oldest in France. Thanks to the mobilization of all, many works have been saved from the flames and now everyone has a look towards the future. The restoration work began with the arrival of a 41 meter crane whose assembly was entrusted to the Compagnons de Saint-Jacques, whose aim was to accompany the first works of work. The great tarpaulin is still present, but everyone hopes to find the beautiful building that makes the city proud.
