In the midst of all these warm colours, a blue croquée étendue on the canvas taking the form of the Barrage lake dam, derived from the work of glacial erosion, proudly rises. The dam was built between 1884 and 1887 during the German occupation to regulate the flow of the Doller. Already in 1883, the Germans had achieved a 30-foot dam in order to raise the level. Inaugurated in 1888, the dike was hailed as a technical prowess at the time. The reflections of the rocks and the deciduous forests, the promontoire of a chalet, the foam of the Cascade waterfall are part of creating an enchanting array.
