The flying club was founded in 1947 by Henry Metz, a locksmith born in Sarrebourg in 1892, who learned to fly during his military service in the German army. The airfield has two runways running south-north, one asphalt runway 740 m long and 20 m wide, the other grass runway 770 m long and 80 m wide.
