The Burgundy-Franche-Comté region is a tourist destination in more ways than one. It is spread over 8 departments - Côte-d'Or, Doubs, Haute-Saône, Jura, Nièvre, Saône-et-Loire, Territoire de Belfort, Yonne - and offers a wide range of nature, built heritage and gastronomy. From the mountains of the Haut-Jura to the lakes of the Morvan, from the banks of the Doubs and the Saône to those of the Seine and the Loire, it is a great diversity of landscapes and preserved nature to be discovered on foot, on horseback, in a caravan, in a canoe, in a boat or on a motorcycle.. The 1,000 km of canals in Burgundy, the plateau of the 1,000 ponds (Haute-Saône), the 7 waterfalls of Hérisson (Jura), the Mont Beuvray and the Roche de Solutré (great site of France) are yours.

In the historical chapter: the hospices of Beaune, the Clos de Vougeot, the Palace of the Dukes and States in Dijon, the remains of Alesia, the abbeys of Cîteaux and Cluny, the Bartholdi lion in Belfort, Vézelay and its basilica. Unesco has also classified the citadel of Besançon and the climates of the Burgundy vineyard, with 33 classified great growths and 100 AOC.

Among the local specialties: parsley ham, Montbéliard or Morteau sausage, snails, comté, morbier, vacherin Mont d'Or, cancoillotte, époisses, bleu de Gex. Let's add mustard and gingerbread from Dijon and aniseed from Flavigny.

Finally, Burgundy-Franche-Comté is a wellness destination, with 5 thermal spas: Luxeuil-les-Bains, Bourbon-Lancy, Salins-les-Bains, Lons-le-Saunier and Saint-Honoré-les-Bains. With so many assets, it is impossible to do without your Petit Futé Bourgogne-France-Comté !

What to visit Franche-Comté?

When to go to Franche-Comté?

Burgundy-Franche-Comté is so rich and varied that it deserves several stays and offers multiple possibilities that allow you to program your stays in the four seasons. Throughout the year, you will find appointments, atmospheres and attractions that vary from one end of the region to the other. Of course, the high tourist season is in the summer: for all outdoor stays, it is the right time. However, if you want to hike or bike, it is best to avoid the height of summer, which can be very hot. During the warmest weeks, you should prefer to slide along the water or to practice water sports. As for skiing in the Jura, it is in winter, when the snow has fallen!

As the region is very touristy, there is no need to worry about the closure of accommodations, restaurants or museums when the high season ends. Moreover, the tourist offer being important, you will not have any difficulty to organize your stay, even at the last moment, except for the most important meetings.

If the wine roads and wine cellars are open all year round, the celebration is most beautiful at harvest time, in January for the Saint Vincent Tournante in the wine villages of Burgundy, or the first weekend of February during the Percée du Vin Jaune (Jura). You can also attend the Hospices de Beaune wine auction, one of the most famous charity events in the world, on the third Sunday of November. But if you want a seat, you'll have to get there very early.
