XVII CHAPEL

Churches cathedrals basilicas and chapels

La Chapelle Neuve, whose name is related to the church, was erected in 1862 in parish but became common only in 1873. It is bordered to the north by the forest of Beffou. The village was built around a th century chapel. The choir shaped in a crypt continued by a very long underground, a few centuries ago. The choir can always be admired, but the underground no longer exists.

Built with pink granite, its bell tower is made up of a dome and a pyramid-shaped steeple from the 17th century. Inside, you can admire the 12th century Romanesque nave, with its superb arches while its ancient column capitals illustrate scenes of Adam and Eve from the Old Testament. The second part of the church was built in the 14th century and was later extended in 1951.

LAMPAUL-GUIMILIAU PARISH ENCLOSURE

For more than two centuries, the parishes of Guimiliau and Saint-Thégonnec competed with ingenuity and originality in their religious buildings. The spirit of the bell attisé the competition and now you can admire their beautiful pens. First of all, it is about the monumental calvary that was built in the late 7 th century after years of work. Like all wayside, it tells the life of Christ and consists of more than 200 characters: a record! Surmounted by 4 statues representing the Virgin, Saint John, Saint Pierre and Saint Yves, the statues of the 4 evangelists are also observed in its corners. With regard to the church, only the steeple dates from the th century, the rest was renovated in the flamboyant and Renaissance style of the following centuries. The sumptuous baptistery wooden baptistery is one of the most remarkable features of the monument. Finally, the location south of the chore is quite rare and its appearance in the form of a rotonde gives a singular appearance.

This building was rebuilt in 1870 and was renovated several times in 1968 and 2001. It is installed on a granitic chaos. There is a Calvary and a bungalow next to it. This guard post is also built on the rock mass but has an older date. Built in the 18th century, it served as a coastal surveillance post. In the summer, volunteers give information on the history of this place and concerts are organized.

Built in the middle of the 18th century, the Chapel of Saint William was completely restored around 1830. This one is located in front of the island of Saint-Cado, in a magnificent site on the edge of the Ria d'Etel. Saint William, a Breton bishop born in Saint-Alban near Lamballe around 1175, died in 1234. It is used to cure rheumatism and gout. Namely: every year, forgiveness is celebrated on the last Sunday in July. The village of Nestadio is also worth a visit for its beautiful houses with their elaborate facades, mullioned windows and vast fireplaces.

ST. YVES CHURCH

Religious buildings

In a classical way, the parish paddock of the Roche-Mauritius includes a calvary, a church and a ossuary. While calvary is characterized by simplicity, church and calvary are beautiful examples of the Renaissance style of the country. In the church, rebuilt in the th century on a previous building, you can only admire the jubé. With polychrome wood and made by a morlaisien sculptor, it is the centrepiece. Representing a variety of local characters, apostles and saints, with many original reasons, it is even considered one of the most beautiful of Brittany. The sand retrace moments of daily life as well as biblical scenes. Carried out by local artists, ossuary is also a fine example of the religious architecture of modern times. In the stone, carved characters such as the Ankou (the death knight) are depicted in the form of a skeleton with a false. Some inscriptions carved in Latin remind the human condition.
