Read moreIn August, the San Louis festival is held, when the district's population gathers in colorful costumes to celebrate the link between humanity and the sacred through dances such as the "sacred deer" dance. The deer dance is one of the main elements of Mayan culture that has been preserved through time. The ancient ritual that mimics deer hunting is an authentic Belizean experience, visible at several Mayan festivities in the southern district of Toledo. In early August, the Mayan village of San Antonio hosts the Deer Dance Festival.

CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL OF BELIZE
Read moreOriginally known as the Toledo Cocoa Festival, this event has become a national event since 2021. Held over a weekend in May, the event kicks off with a wine and chocolate evening, featuring cocktails made with chocolate and wines from Belize and beyond. Saturday is devoted to demonstrations of chocolate production practices and tasting, and throughout the weekend activities are organized to keep the kids entertained. An ideal opportunity to discover the south of the country.
SARTENEJA EASTER REGATTA

It's a chance to see at work the magnificent wooden boats built by local master craftsmen. It's also an opportunity to celebrate and enjoy an anthology "beach party", during which tourists and locals alike dance to the rhythm of frenzied music on the village beach after the competitions. The party ends around 3 a.m., so plan to rest up on Easter Monday!
MONKEY RIVER FESTIVAL
