ZIOUKA GLACES

Bread cakes chocolates ice cream
3.7/5

Behind the thick wall at number 1 of the place Jules Grévy, Claude Ziouka, ice-cream maker and creator of flavours in Carbet, made an ally with cold. In some flavoured touches, he  transforms water into a delicious sorbet and manioc into a sublime ice cream. In the small space decorated in water-green colours, Claude presents in his chilled window  a whole range of colourful sorbets and ice cream to make your tasebuds go crazy. Here, quality is the priority and local products an obligation. Throughout the year, he fills up small pots,  litres or horns with new flavours. Corossol, guava or mombin, basil, lychee, mango or lemongrass compete with the delicious ice cream with pepper or vegetarian, with those of the pulp giraumon, manioc or barbadine. With its ice cream on the spot or take away, its home delivery or its catering, this glacier is a reference in Carbet.

A typical West Indian market with its salespeople who will make you discover the treasures of their North Caribbean land or the little Creole grannies who sell produce from their garden, without forgetting the fishermen returning from fishing. Opposite the marina, here is a colorful and lively stop to stock up on local fruits and vegetables, depending on the season, in a 100% Creole and friendly atmosphere. The place naturally provides fresh fish brought back by the morning fishermen, but it also offers a wide range of meats and of course black pudding. There is also a good choice of liqueurs, shrubs, local spices and handicrafts. The atmosphere is typical of a village of the south of the island. An essential stop during your stay.

The flavors are surprising: shell ginger flowers, mango ginger, moringa leaves… Her latest discovery is a sorbet made from “bodlanmé” grapes that she picks herself. LA CASE À MANIOC

Delicatessen American and Caribbean products

On the heights of Lorraine, the Ragald family has been growing manioc for five generations. They are proud to pass on this ancestral know-how. Here, everything is done in the most traditional way in the world: cassava is planted, cultivated, uprooted and worked to transform it into flour. Different stages follow one another: the tubers are grated and peeled to extract the pulp, before being cooked in large wood-fired stoves. Ten minutes later, the famous cassava, the Caribbean galette, is ready to be eaten.
