On January 19, Ethiopia celebrated Timkat. It is the Orthodox Epiphany, the most important religious holiday in the country. This event, particularly colourful, shows how the fervour of the Ethiopian people is boundless. It is very interesting to be in Lalibela (or Gondar) at the time of the Timkat, to attend the processions of pilgrims coming from the surrounding mountains to celebrate the Baptism of Jesus in the waters of the Jordan River. Participating in this pilgrimage can be a reason to travel on its own, such is the fascination and uniqueness of the spectacle! The next Timkat will take place on January 19, 2015
