The Holy Week before Easter is celebrated with great fervor, and religious ceremonies take place in every village.
Holy Week is celebrated with the greatest fervor throughout the country. It takes place between March and April, depending on the year, with dates varying according to the liturgical calendar. Catholics commemorate the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection of Christ, with solemn masses and processions in every town and village. While only Maundy Thursday and Good Friday are public holidays (not Easter Monday), Panamanians generally take the rest of the week off to go on vacation. The beaches are crowded, the capital deserted.
