Practical information : Going out Malta
Timetable
Bars generally close at 1 a.m., but much later in a lively district like Paceville, where they empty around 4 or 5 a.m. If you're going out in the evening, entertainment is at its peak on Fridays and Saturdays. Most nightclubs open at 10pm, and the crowds quickly fill up.
To be booked
To attend a theater show, opera or concert, as with any performance, it's advisable to make a reservation to be sure of getting a seat.
Night transport
Eight bus routes operate at night in Malta (list available at www.publictransport.com.mt), four of which serve the St Julian's district. They can be identified by the letter N preceding their number, and operate from midnight to 4.30 a.m. (€3). Alternatively, you can always take a cab.
Age restrictions
The legal drinking age is 17. Don't forget your identity card in case of a check.
What's very local
Apart from St Julian's and Paceville, there's another area close to Valletta where nightlife is concentrated: Sliema. Particularly along the Strand, where you'll find numerous pubs. If you travel around these areas, you'll also find boat parties with DJs and unlimited open bars. Finally, on the festive calendar, the local festivals, which take place from mid-June to mid-September, are highly sought-after. Ask your tourist office for dates.
