Practical information : Take a break Ireland
Timetable
Pubs are generally open from 10:30 to 23:30 Monday to Thursday, 10:30 to 12:30 on Friday and Saturday and 12:00 to 23:00 on Sunday.
Budget & Tips
A pint in a pub costs from €6, which you usually pay directly at the counter. There is no strict rule on tipping in Ireland, but of course a good tip is always welcome in the pub if you have a sit-down meal. It is appropriate to leave about 10% of the total bill. Of course, all establishments take credit cards. Please note that in Northern Ireland, the currency being the pound sterling, a commission will be charged for each payment.
Age restrictions
To enter the pubs, the minimum age is 18, and young adults are often asked to show their ID
What's very local
As soon as 5 pm and the office hours start, we rush to the pub with family or friends to drink a few pints and eat an Irish stew. On weekends, we hang out at the table for a long time at lunchtime and offer ourselves an extended Irish breakfast.
Kids
Families with children are not allowed in the pubs after 9pm. And, if you are accompanied by your charming little heads, you will have to leave the place at that time.
Smokers
Smoking is not allowed inside bars and restaurants. But most pubs have a terrace or patio, often heated in winter, for smokers.
Tourist traps
In Dublin, in Temple Bar, there are many touts offering you entry to the various pubs and nightclubs. It is not certain that you will meet many locals in these establishments.
