It was in 1839, between France, Germany and Belgium, that the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg was created. While the financial centre and high GDP of this small country are often the first things that come to the minds of neophytes, its picturesque rural landscapes are nevertheless of striking beauty. The city of Luxembourg is a cultural city (see in the old city, the remains of the Fortress of Luxembourg listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and dynamic with a wealth of good addresses: gourmet restaurants, charming hotels and trendy bars are legion. It must be said that Luxembourg's healthy economy attracts the whole world - there are more than 150 nationalities in the city - who come here to do business during the day! But when evening comes, the cosmopolitan capital finds all its tranquility and we taste a most relaxing way of life. The Luxembourg tourist guide also takes us to the spa town of Mondorf-les-Bains for wellness stays and to Luxembourg's Moselle where we can eat wonderfully well. Sportsmen and nature lovers will enjoy a refreshing change of scenery in the Ardennes, but also in the north of the country, where the Valleys of the Our and Haute-Sûre shelter sumptuous walking trails. The Terres Rouges du Sud, once industrial, is reborn: the former factories and blast furnaces are being reinvested in museums and alternative cultural centres. "Wëllkom zu Lëtzebuerg", as they say in this small country in the heart of Europe!

Weather all year round

Generally speaking, Luxembourg's climate is temperate and relatively humid. It can be described as semi-continental. In winter, snowfall is common, and temperatures in Luxembourg are often below 0°C, with peaks at -15°C. In the summer, the weather in Luxembourg is milder, although there is a large temperature difference between day and night.

Budget

Only the euro is accepted in Luxembourg. The cost of living is significantly higher than in France. The biggest part of your budget will probably concern accommodation. Its cost is quite prohibitive, especially in the capital, except during weekends (important reductions are then often granted). From this point of view, even for a short stay, booking through the Internet is often a good idea. Entrance to museums and guided tours are not too expensive.

Procedures

No visa is needed to go to Luxembourg. Belonging to the Schengen area, for a stay of less than three months, it is possible to go there from France with only an identity card or a valid passport. No administrative formalities are required to visit the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

Health

Luxembourg does not require any vaccine to enter its territory, apart from the traditional Diphtheria-Tetanus-Polio booster and the hepatitis B vaccine, which are included in the French vaccination calendar. However, from February to November, in the heavily forested regions of the Ardennes, Moselle and Mullerthal, watch out for ticks that could cause Lyme disease or tick-borne meningoencephalitis, although the cases reported are relatively rare. As a preventive measure, do not hesitate to use repellents and wear a headgear and long-sleeved clothing when hiking. Water is drinkable in Luxembourg.

It is quite easy to travel the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg alone, for a long weekend or a trip of several days. While direct flights to Luxembourg airport exist, the train is often a more attractive alternative. Once there, it is particularly recommended to drive around this small country in order to fully enjoy the beauty of the countryside.

Although the road is the best way to get around the country quickly, the train is also an option not to be neglected because of the frequent traffic jams around Luxembourg City and the border towns during rush hour. For those who have opted to discover the country by bike, think of the accommodations labeled bed + bike.
