Monuments to visit Colombia

This building in white and black stone, whose construction began in 1925, is the work of the Belgian Belgian Agustín Goovaerts. Today he houses a museum on Rafael Uribe Uribe, a Colombian politician assassinated during the presidential campaign in 1914 for his liberal commitment.

The symbol of Popayán. Right to the right of the cathedral and facing Parque Caldas. The bell was built between 1675 and 1682 at the request of Bishop Cristóbal Bernardo de Quiroz. During the war of independence, the contrepoids of his clock were melted on the order of General Nariño, to make cannon balls.

It is a classic building erected between 1847 and 1925, at the initiative of President Thomas Cipriano Mosquera.

Bogotá's Barrio San Diego is home to the statue La Rebeca, the first sculptural representation of a naked woman in public space in Colombia. Erected in 1926 in neoclassical style, it is inspired by the biblical figure of Rebecca, wife of Isaac, a figure considered "feminist" by Catholic feminists. Depicted here topless, the nudity of her breasts shocked the good society of the time, and she made the headlines. Despite its transgressive aspect, it was preserved and is now part of Bogotá's cultural heritage.
