Crossing Lake Koman is a must. Two boats operate between Fierza and Koman. The small ferry Berisha operates from mid-April to early November and can carry 8-10 vehicles. This local car rental agency (Petani Agency Makina me Qira) is the only one located in the ferry terminal in the port of Durrës. It offers a vast choice of vehicles of all makes and ages, including SUVs and - a rarity in Albania - motorhomes. You'll find a friendly welcome and attractive rates for economy cars. Located on the shores of Lake Shkodra, this border post (Vendkalimi Kufitar Hani i Hotit, Granični Prijelaz Božaj) is the main crossing point between Albania and Montenegro. From here, you can quickly reach Podgorica, the Montenegrin capital, 23 km to the northwest. But waiting at customs can take 1h30 in summer. Less busy, the Muriqan-Sukobin border post (16 km south-west of Shkodra) provides access to the coastal towns of Ulcinj and Bar.

This bus station (Stacioni i Autobusave Durrës) is not very well organized, but it has the merit of existing. There are many buses and minibuses for Tirana but also for some localities of the region and for many cities of the country. There are also agencies selling ferry tickets to Italy, cafes and restaurants, a pharmacy and a bank. Another advantage: the bus station is well located, right next to the train station (connections with Shkodra and Vlora once a day) and connected to the ferry station by a footbridge.

This bus station (Stacioni i Autobusave) is fairly informal. Minibuses to Tepelena and Saranda (1 per hour), the Antigone site (1 per hour until 3pm), Tirana and Berat (7 per day), Përmet (3 per day), Vlora and Korçë (1 per day). Another bus station is 800 m further up the boulevard du 18-Septembre, level with the stadium. Here you'll find city buses and KTEL buses for Greece: Athens (3 per day), Ioannina (1 per day) and Thessalonica (1 per day).

This border crossing (Vendkalimi Kufitar Qafë Thanë, Граничен Премин Ќафасан/Graničen Premin Kafasan) is the main crossing point between Albania and Northern Macedonia. It is not recommended to use it because Albanian customs officers here are overzealous. Some cases of theft and corruption were reported to us. To reach Ohrid, go through the border post near Pogradec, which is safer and allows you to visit the Saint-Naum monastery.
