OUNIANGA LAKE SERIR AND VILLAGE

Natural site to discover

This small lake differs from its big brother by its banks eaten by reeds and dominated by steep peaks that miroitent in water. Its waters are also salted. The small village, located on the slope of its south bank, looks even more desolate and ghostly than its counterpart… No market, no petrol, nothing alone a few tents and stone boxes, most abandoned… However, if you make a small stop, you will not be submergé by an army of small sellers of flint (you find a mess in the pagaille. region), flèche and harpoons, and handicrafts. In front of the recent influx of tourists, prices have climbed, and all the goods are displayed at 5 000 FCFA… You can talk afterwards! As follows: pens are of great market value in the surroundings, and you can easily exchange one against two or three silex… You will also be offered these beautiful pink or green heels, which seem to make Fureur fureur!

BINDER-LÉRÉ WILDLIFE RESERVE (RFBL)

Natural site to discover

On Binder-The, poaching, intensive fishing and bush fires are obstacles to the sustainable development of this protected area. Protection measures are under way. With an area of 135 000 ha, Binder-The is the smallest reserve in Chad. Its exceptional animal biodiversity consists mainly of large herbivores such as hippotrague, elephant and manatee, scientific name Trichechus senegalensis, the emblematic species of the two lakes! To promote environmental protection, riparian populations (Moundang and Foulbé) have organized and collaborated with the park to develop eco-tourism. In 2002, the Community pilot area was set up on 40 000 ha: it is intended for sports hunting. The aim is to enable the surrounding population to live better, with the income generated by tourism, to better protect nature. There is a Management committee for hunting and ecotourism (BEC) which oversees visits and makes available to visitors well-trained guides. You can admire the fauna and flora of the reserve and especially its main point of interest Les chutes Gauthiot. These waterfalls, which caracolent on the Mayo-Kebbi, are on the track that leaves Tréné, about kilometres from the village. The villagers will be happy to show you their arts (pottery and weaving). The Foulbé de Mombaroua (regrouped in co-operative called Art Godon) weave and tailor blankets called godoré as well as towels, tablecloths… They have a showroom to sell their items.

PANORAMA

Natural site to discover

You can climb on the cliff behind the school, after having clearly specified your intention to the people around you to avoid any misunderstanding (the military are susceptible and vexent at all the fingertips!).

The blue waters of the lake then come at your sight, identified from the green of cross-palms, and from the red of the massifs to the background… A real treat for your eyes! A few canards ducks above the lake, while some frightened swallows escape your passage from their nests dug into the cliff.
