Budget & Tips
Hotel-restaurants located on the lagoon and ocean shores of Boulay Island near Abidjan, Grand-Bassam or Assinie, offer a host of free activities from the moment you have lunch at the restaurant on site (day package), if you don't spend the night there. Starting with access to the swimming pool (which can also be paid extra if you don't have lunch), but also canoeing, pétanque, volleyball, dugout canoe, children's games... It all depends on the place! Then there are additional paying activities, often boat trips, jet skiing, water skiing..
What's very local
Abidjanis generally run around their neighborhood and close to their homes. Not everyone is in the same boat (that is the case), so those who are not fortunate enough to live in a residential area - generally quieter, with a regulated minimum and relatively untouched by the chaotic traffic in busy parts of the city - simply swallow their miles of tar (and their dose of fine particles) where they can. While Abidjan does not really have a lot of green space, there are a few places in the city where running can be enjoyed. This is particularly the case of the University of Cocody (attention, hilly course), the Catholic College Notre-Dame d'Afrique in Biétry on the Boulevard de Marseille (accessible to athletes only at weekends), or the Banco forest, on the northern highway. For joggers who like challenges and big sporting events, you should know that for the past few years, the Ivory Coast Marathon has been bringing together all running enthusiasts once a year.
