On the occasion of Dominicana Moda, the fashion week of the Dominican Republic, where Jean-Paul Gaultier was honorary president, we were able to exchange with the creator on his new passion for this beautiful island of the Caribbean that he discovered for the first time. The President of the Miss France 2016 jury told us more about what had so charmed him in the Dominican Republic.

What did you particularly love in the Dominican Republic?

Jean-Paul Gaultier: " The light is amazing here and, above all, the nacre colors are unique. " I have never seen this kind of light in another country. It is a cliché, but I will always bear in mind the image of the sunset in the Dominican Republic. I'm not a very good photographer, but the photos I just took with my smartphone are sublime (laughter) and that means everything… I also loved fusion cuisine that we tasted here and the incredibly warm welcome of the people. " "

What do you think of the dummies of that country?

Jean-Paul Gaultier: " I find them beautiful and beautiful. " What I like very much is that incredible population mix. No one looks like it and therefore the models have a lot of character. I have always been for dummies of all the colors of skins and of all forms, so naturally I am delighted to work with dummies of the Dominican Republic. Here we are at the opposite of uniformity and convention. I love it! " "

You met the President of the Dominican Republic during your stay in Santo Domingo, what did you talk about together?

Jean-Paul Gaultier: " Much of the money that I've received on my parade will be repaid to a sick children's hospital in Santo Domingo, and I think it's really good that Dominicana Moda is not just a week of fashion, but it's also helping to support humanitarian associations and beautiful causes. " That is basically what I said to the President and encouraged him to continue along that path. When I went to this hospital for children, I was amazed at how happy the decay of this hospital was, and I am happy to contribute to improving the daily lives of these little sick people. Indeed, a doctor explained to me that this warmer living environment helped children morally in intensive care and that they even found that vomiting was disappearing. " "
