FORT NIEUW AMSTERDAM

Day 7: Central Suriname

Steps: Mont Kasikasima

Departure for an excursion into the interior of the country to discover the Amazon rainforest: excursion by car and pirogue to the Central Suriname Reserve, Raleighvallen and Blanche Marie Falls, or departure by plane to Mount Kasikasima for the more adventurous. Then you'll have to head inland. A change of scenery is guaranteed, as is the opportunity to observe the surrounding fauna: primates, birds, reptiles... Nature lovers will be delighted. The bonus: the discovery of rare and ancient peoples, such as the Noirs-Marrons and Amerindians. This option requires between 4 and 5 days' free time and can be costly, as tour operators are responsible for all transport, accommodation, activities and food on site.

Day 8: Raleighvallen

Part of Suriname's Central Nature Reserve, Raleighvallen is world-renowned among ornithologists. If you're lucky, you'll be able to see the roosters on parade (November to March).

Day 9: Black-Brown

Meet this population of descendants of African slaves. Entrenched inland, the Noirs-Marrons are divided between French Guiana and Suriname, but do not recognize the Suriname River as a border between France and Suriname. They often settle near rivers.

Day 10: Awarradam

Deep in the Amazon rainforest lies Awarradam, an island on the Suriname River. An excursion here will bring Amazonian and African cultures together.

Day 11: Palumeu

Steps: Palumeu

Pretty Amerindian village in the heart of Suriname. It is home to around 200 people, mostly Tiriyo Amerindians.

Day 12: Kasikasima Mountains

Steps: Mont Kasikasima

Located on the Palumeu River, these granite mountains are in the south of the country. Considered one of Suriname's most beautiful tourist circuits, exploring the Kasikasima Mountains requires experience and a high level of fitness.

Day 13: Gran Rio

Embark on a day of canoeing and kayaking on the Gran Rio river. Adventure and challenge await you!

Day 14: Return to Paramaribo

Steps: Paramaribo

Guided tour of Paramaribo 's historic center and Fort Zeelandia, local meal (roast, bami, nasi). Boat excursion to observe the dolphins of the estuary. Overnight at hotel or guesthouse. Nightlife and casinos.

Shopping for souvenirs and postcards. Take a last dip in one of the hotel pools and relax before your flight. If returning to French Guiana by vehicle, plan a stopover in Moengo, not far from the Maroni River.
