Day 1: Rome - day 1

Steps: Rome

Start your visit with the symbol of the city of Rome: the Colosseum. Next, discover the Roman and imperial forums, as well as Mount Palatine. A walk through this grandiose site will take you back to the origins of Rome and its ancient grandeur. Afterwards, go to Santa Maria in Aracoeli, from where you can enjoy a splendid view of the city. After a well-deserved break, head to Campo Marzio and then to Campo dei Fiori. Depending on the time of day, you can either sit down and enjoy an aperitif or go straight to dinner.

Day 2: Rome - day 2

Steps: Rome

Return to Campo Marzio with a walk through the Renaissance streets and alleys of old Rome. The itinerary starts in Piazza Navona and ends in Piazza Farnese. You will discover the Senate, the Sapienza, the Campo dei Fiori and the most beautiful Renaissance churches. In the afternoon, visit the Ghetto, Tiberina Island and Trastevere. In the evening, you can stay in the neighborhood and enjoy the atmosphere.

Day 3: Rome - day 3

Steps: Rome, Todi

Discovery of the Roman Baroque. To begin the day, visit the Vatican and its museums, including theSistine Chapel. In the afternoon, discover theTrevi Fountain by passing through Piazza di Spagna and the church of the Trinità dei Monti, then passing through Via Condotti, the mecca of luxury boutiques in Rome. For the evening, you can go back to Trevi because the atmosphere of the fountain, when it is illuminated, is extraordinary, as well as the crowd. Otherwise, go and finish your stay in the piazza del Popolo.

Day 4: Naples - day 1

Steps: Naples

This is only a discovery of the must-see places in the great city of Naples. Archaeological or rather medieval, baroque or rococo, Naples conceals a thousand treasures. Visit of the city. Walk in the historical center and view of the gulf of Naples, via Caracciolo. See also the Museo Archeologico (antiquities) or the palace-museum of Capodimonte (Renaissance and Baroque).

Day 5: Naples - day 2

Second day in the warm Naples, and visit the corners of the city that missed you the day before.

Day 6: Pompeii and Herculaneum

Steps: Naples, Pompei

This day will be dedicated to the visit of the ancient cities: Pompeii and its famous Vesuvius, and Herculaneum, only 10 to km away from each other.

Day 7: Capri

Steps: Capri

Of the three islands anchored in the Gulf of Naples, Capri remains the most famous and the most touristy. Vertiginous cliffs, turquoise waters, beautiful coves, elegant villas with terraced gardens, caves and unique panorama, taunt the visitor. The emperors Augustus and Tiberius succumbed to its charm and built villas there. The 19th century "rediscovered" the island which became a resort for many painters, writers and artists.

Day 8: The forests of Calabria

The Calabrian mountains are covered with green forests, jewels of the region. After a descent along the Gulf of Salerno, then Policastro, it is good to get lost among the peaks of northern Calabria. The Pollino National Park, with its oaks, beeches, firs and especially the Balkan pine, will not fail to enchant you. Stops in remote villages and overnight stays in a farmhouse... The noise of Naples and the glittering beauty of Capri are already far away, in this region of wild charm.

Day 9: Matera and Alberobello

Steps: Alberobello, Trulli, Matera

Visit the sassi (cave dwellings) of Matera, the archaeological, historical and natural park of rock churches and the Cripta del Peccato Originale. If you still have time, visit the Duomo, the Ridola Museum and Palazzo Lafranchi. Departure from Matera for Alberobello, also a Unesco World Heritage Site. Stroll through the city of trullithese are the typical houses of the Itria Valley, painted with whitewash and with inimitable conical roofs. Walk in the surroundings to discover the land of the trulli.

Day 10: Bari

Steps: Bari, Canosa Di Puglia

Visit the old town of Bari and its two most beautiful religious buildings: the Basilica of San Nicola and the Cathedral of San Sabino. Continue the walk through the castello, built by Frederick II in 1233 and finish with the Archaeological Museum or the Pinacoteca.

Day 11: Ostuni and its beaches

Steps: Martina Franca, Ostuni, Gubbio

Morning departure for Martina Franca. Visit of the old town and its palazzo Ducale (now the town hall). Arrival in the afternoon in Ostuni. Enjoy the old town and its cathedral. Finish your day by the sea at the Marina di Ostuni.

Day 12: Lecce

Steps: Lecce

Arrival in Lecce, nicknamed the baroque Florence. Visit of the piazza Sant'Oronzo with its amphitheater, the palazzo del Seggio, the piazza del Duomo and the numerous churches that dot it, especially Santa Croce, the masterpiece of the city.

Day 13: Otranto, the heel of the boot

Steps: Otranto

Departure for the ancient capital ofOtranto, the last Byzantine bastion in Italy. Visit the old town, the Aragonese castle and its cathedral. End your day at Porto Badisco, a beautiful beach one kilometer south of the city.

Day 14: Abruzzo National Park

Once past the magical promontory of Gargano, in the north of Puglia, you enter the charming lands of Molise and Abruzzo. The abundance of forests and the high plateaus are home to a unique fauna in Italy: it is the last refuge of the brown bear and the Apennine wolf. Only the lucky ones will be able to see these two protected species, among the forty or so mammals living in the park. Bring a good pair of binoculars to admire the 300 different species of birds that spread their wings over the park. Overnight stay in an Abruzzo farmhouse or drive back to your departure town.
