Day 1: Ciutat Vella and Barrio del Carmen

Steps: Valence

Discover the old city of Valencia, starting with the Estación del Norte. We go up Poeta Querol street and its luxury shops to the National Ceramics Museum. Then we head for the Mercado Central, a huge modernist market with magnificent domes. Opposite, the Lonja de la Seda offers an admirable example of civil Gothic. Next, head to the pretty Plaza Redonda and its surrounding streets where you can stroll through the stalls of local artisans. After a well-deserved break in one of the horchaterias of Plaza Santa Catalina, you can visit the Valencia Cathedral and its museum. Right next door, the Gothic basilica of Our Lady of the Disabled stands on the emblematic Plaza de la Virgen. We then enter the Barrio del Carmen through the lively Calle Caballeros. We head for the Valencian Institute of Modern Art (IVAM), a prestigious museum of contemporary art. Continue on to the former Carmen convent to admire its Gothic and Renaissance cloisters, which house a museum dedicated to 19th-century painting. For a beautiful view of the city, you can also climb to the top of the Serranos towers.

Day 2: Eixample and Russafa

Steps: Valence

Bullfighting enthusiasts can start the day by visiting the Valencia Bullfighting Museum, which gives access to the bullfighting arena. Then, we head for the Mercado de Colón, a shopping mall located in a former modernist market. In the surrounding streets, there are beautiful shops where fashion addicts should wreak havoc. Then head for Calle Conde de Altea, which offers beautiful terraces at lunchtime. In the afternoon, discover the Russafa district and its bookstores, chic boutiques and bohemian bars. After dark, go to the Mercedes café for a jazz concert or to the Tocado café to immerse yourself in the Belle Époque atmosphere of this café-theatre.

Day 3: Along the Turia

Steps: Valence

Start the day at the western end of the Turia by visiting the Bioparc, an innovative concept of "zoo immersion", where the absence of visible barriers offers an unusual experience. Ride your bike to reach the eastern end of the Turia through the gardens and bridges of this long green flow. On the way, stop at the Fine Arts Museum, which houses a superb collection of Valencian and Spanish painters. At the end of the Turia gardens stands the impressive Cité des Arts et des Sciences and its futuristic buildings. You can visit the Oceanogràfic, the largest aquarium in Europe, and the Felipe Principle Science Museum. If the programme inspires you, treat yourself to an opera evening at the Reina Sofia Palace of Arts.

Day 4: Maritime facade

You will be able to spend the morning strolling in the streets of the popular Cabanyal district, whose lovely huts are covered with azulejos. The curious can stop at the museum of the Semana Santa Marinera to admire the collection of tanks of the brotherhoods of fishermen. At the time of the vermouth, there are many wineries in the area. By joining the harbour, take a look at the Veles e Vents building of the architect David Chipperfield, built as part of the celebration of the America's Cup in Valencia. After strolling along the Paseo Maritimo and enjoying a good paella facing the sea, the time has come to offer you a relaxing afternoon at .

Day 5: La Albufera

Steps: La Albufera, El Saler

This large natural park is located about ten kilometres from Valencia. It is here that the famous Valencian rice is produced. Discover the landscapes of the rice fields, take a boat trip on the freshwater lake and join the island of El Palmar to taste the local speciality: eels at All i Pebre. In the afternoon, enjoy the dune landscapes and beautiful beaches of El Saler.

Day 6: Emperor Xàtiva

Steps: Xàtiva

A historic getaway only 40 minutes by train from Valencia. Dominée is dominated by a majestic citadel, a small town located inside the land. In addition to the unique visit of the , you can stroll through the city to discover its interesting civil and religious heritage. At lunchtime, don't miss to test the local specialty: l al forn (oven rice).

Day 7: Sagunto

Steps: Sagunto - Sagunt

Located about thirty kilometres north of Valencia, Sagunto (Sagunt in Valencian) is worth a visit for its many historical remains, especially its castle and Roman theatre. You can also enjoy the beach and the port. For the gourmands, the old town of Sagunto is home to quality restaurants: a good reason to take a gastronomic getaway.
