Day 1: Arrival in New Orleans

Most flights to New Orleans land in the late afternoon. The evening will be devoted to counteracting jet lag and getting used to the local climate. For the brave, you can take a walk down Bourbon Street and the Vieux Carré for a first go-cup.

Day 2: Vieux Carré

Steps: La Nouvelle-Orléans

You can stay around the Vieux Carré (Old street). Why not take a look at to understand the importance, cultural and historical during Mardi Gras. In the evening, you can either start strolling along the busy street of Louisiana after  a po-boy on the go, or settle comfortably at the Grecian Harbor, or any other club of the , an Abita in hand to get immersed in jazz atmosphere.

Day 3: Cruise on Mississippi

Steps: La Nouvelle-Orléans

Embark on a cruise on the Mississippi river aboard the Natchez, one of the last real sailing boats, and enjoy the short introduction of New Orleans. Lunch on board, then once you land, enter into Jackson Square where the street artists abound. On the evening menu, gumbo or jambalaya.

Day 4: North Rampart and the Voodoo Culture

Make a guided tour of the New Orleans's cemeteries: it is also a good way to back in time and to get immersed in the voodoo culture, particularly centered around North Rampart. 

Day 5: Lafitte and the Barataria Nature Reserve

Steps: Marrero, Lafitte

Leave early in the morning for a more naturalist excursion towards Lafitte, a ( ).

Day 6: Algiers Point and Mississippi

Steps: La Nouvelle-Orléans

Plan a quiet day before the departure for the cajun country. Cross Mississippi and walk through Algiers Point (ferry trip), quiet and typical neighbourhood, isolated and therefore away from the crowds of tourists.

Day 7: Entering the Cajun Country

Steps: Houma

Leave New Orleans for a few days to discover the Cajun Country. Go through the bayou towards Houma where you can find a safe haven in Betty's marsh. In the evening, get familiar with the Cajun French in a "fais-dodo".

Day 8: Journey amidst bayou

This is the day of your immersion into the depth of the wild bayou. Many addresses offer swamp tours to meet the inhabitants of the marshes: alligators, hyacinth, Spanish moss and bald cedar... If you have an opportunity, spend the night in a house-boat.

Day 9: Heading to Lafayette

Steps: Avery Island, Lafayette, Henderson

Heading to Lafayette. You can enjoy a spicy lunch at the Avery Island. Pass through Henderson.

Day 10: Lafayette

Steps: Lafayette, Breaux Bridge

Once in Lafayette, take a look at Breaux Bridge.

Day 11: Lake Charles and Crowley

Steps: Crowley, Lake Charles

Lake Charles and its casinos are a change of scenery after a few days with the Cajuns. On the road, go to Crowley, capital of rice, and its Crystal Rice plantation where beautiful crayfish are raised.

Day 12: Creole Nature Trail

Steps: Lake Charles, Sulphur

The Creole Nature Trail is a trail that leaves Lake Charles and gets close the Gulf of Mexico; The opportunity to take a walk in airboat to discover the fauna and flora. In the evening you can play slot machine.

Day 13: Crossroads Region

Steps: Opelousas, Alexandria - Pineville, Natchitoches, Kisatchie National Forest

Opelousas will be your last stop in Cajun country: an opportunity for a recap during the visit to Old Town. Via Alexandria, you will reach the Crossroads Region. On the Cane River, you start to see some beautiful planter's homes before stopping at the quiet Kisatchie Forest. If you're equipped, spend the night there. Otherwise, sleep in a beautiful B&B in Natchitoches, the birthplace of Louisiana.

Day 14: Shreveport and St Francisville

Steps: St Francisville, Baton Rouge, Natchez, Ferriday, Shreveport - Bossier City

To complete your itinerary, go through Ferriday. This town can boast of having welcomed the greatest names of the blues. Then go down to Baton Rouge by choosing Hwy -61: You land on to St. Francisville; Try to take a good night's rest at plantation (haunted).

Day 15: Country of plantations

Steps: Baton Rouge

You are in the country of plantations. After a good lunch at Magnolia Café, go to the Baton Rouge and its capitol, the Capitol Park Museum and the USS Kidd, a warship converted into a museum. Walk on the dam at sunset and rest in a hotel not far from the I-10.

Day 16: Evergreen and Laura Plantations

Steps: Plaquemine

It's time to go back slowly to New Orleans. Past the town of Plaquemine, whose lock is worth a detour, stop on the road lined with sugar cane fields in two or three plantations. Whitney, Evergreen or Laura are strongly recommended.

Day 17: Northshore

Steps: Mandeville, Covington

Spend two days on Northshore, the north shore of Lake Ponchartrain. Mandeville, Covington are historic small and charming towns, one for its lake front promenade, the other for its old bricks.

Day 18: Norhtshore

Steps: Covington, Bush, Lacombe

Always in Northshore At choice, effort or comfort. Kayaking on the Cane or Lacombe bayou to meet nice animals with big jaws or tastings in the followed by the visit of the ... or both, but it's better to start with kayaking.

Day 19: New Orleans, Treme and Garden District

Steps: La Nouvelle-Orléans

You can spend your last moments in New Orleans either for a guided tour of Trémé and/or a tour aboard the famous "Streetcar named desire" to Garden District, or to make your latest purchases in Magazine Street or for a last breath of history and adventure with the . A last drink within jazz atmosphere if you will leave in the early morning.

Day 20: Return to France

Your trip ends, but you may want to come back to discover all these landscapes in another season. Your plane takes off in the afternoon.
