Day 1: Direction the south of the country

Steps: Managua, Granada, Rivas, San Juan Del Sur

As soon as you arrive at Managua airport, no time to lose, take a flight to the south of the country, direction San Juan del Sur. For low budget travellers who prefer to take their time, stop in Granada (take the opportunity to visit this beautiful colonial city), then take a bus to San Juan del Sur (you will have to transit through Rivas), count half a day's travel.

Day 2: Festive atmosphere in San Juan del Sur

Steps: Playa Marsella, Playa Maderas

Until a few years ago, San Juan was a very quiet fishing village. Today, cruise ships regularly call at the port, tourist infrastructures are developing at high speed: the city is becoming the main seaside resort of the country..., but this is not yet quite the case and San Juan is also the meeting point for many backpackers seeking to combine beautiful surf spots and lively nightlife. If you prefer nature and "disconnect", don't stay in San Juan, opt for one of the surrounding beaches (like playa marsella or playa maderas), or, even better, head further south, many beaches stretch along the coast to the Costa Rican border.

Day 3: Let release

Steps: San Juan Del Sur

San Juan Del Sur (or surrounding). To choose: relax in the time lag, let us take advantage of this first beautiful beach quietly or... make the swimming pool party, beach beach, until the end of the night! Between two, surf!

Day 4: Popoyo and the beaches of Zona Tola

Steps: Rivas, Las Salinas - Popoyo

The Tola area is made up of many beaches, all very quiet and beautiful, they will delight surfers. We advise you to stay in Popoyo for a more friendly atmosphere to meet other travellers-surfers. But it is also possible to recharge your batteries far from the torments of the city, far from everyone in the middle of nature, by opting for one of the other beaches a little more isolated. You will not be able to get there along the coast, you will have to go through Rivas, then through Tola. It is also possible to fly there via Esmeralda airport.

Day 5: Surf around Popoyo

Enjoy the joys of surfing on the beach you have finally chosen.

Day 6: Surf around Popoyo, next

Continue to enjoy!

Day 7: Road to the north

Steps: León, Poneloya, Las Peñitas

In the north of the country, we advise you to reach Las Peñitas beach, an hour's bus ride from Leon. Leon is a beautiful colonial city that you can visit along the way. With its very student atmosphere, the weekends are very lively. Choose Las Peñitas over Poneloya, the hotel offer is cheaper, the atmosphere more relaxed. The local beaches are very popular with surfers. It is not uncommon to meet local surfers, posted on wooden watchtowers, music and good humour are on the agenda. They offer surf lessons and board rental. This village seems asleep, it comes alive with the arrival of fishermen, evangelical celebrations and friendly Saturday evenings on the beach.

Day 8: Surfing in Las Peñitas

Steps: Reserva Natural Isla Juan Venado

Enjoy a beautiful day of surfing in Las Peñitas. For nature lovers, discover the natural reserve of Juan Venado Island. It is 22 kilometres long and 250 metres wide. From July to January, you may even have the chance to observe turtles there?

Day 9: Surfing in Las Peñitas, the suite

Steps: Chinandega, Reserva Natural Volcán Cosigüina

Keep surfing in Las Peñitas. For travellers who are on the move and want to discover more beaches, explore further north of the country on the road between Chinandega and the Cosigüina volcano nature reserve.

Day 10: Last surf stop in El Transito

Steps: Managua, El Transito

Do you want some more? Make one last stop on the road between Leon and Managua, with El Transito beach. This small surf spot, where surf camps have recently opened their doors, is slowly becoming more and more popular. Many walks to do in the surroundings, especially at low tide when real natural swimming pools appear in the middle of the rocks.

Day 11: Return to Managua

Steps: Managua

This is the time of departure, direction Managua to catch your return flight.
