Stay : Nicaragua's essentials in 4 steps

A 10-day trip is a little short to hope to know Nicaragua well. However, you will be able to visit the most popular places by staying between the Pacific coast, the north of the country and Lake Nicaragua, very different atmospheres from each other. Day 1: Go directly to Granada

Steps: Managua, Granada

Managua. Arrival in the capital, we advise you to go directly to Granada. This fabulous colonial town is within 2 hours of car or bus from Managua. Take advantage of your first night to wander on the streets of the city, go to the central square where the colorful cathedral is located.

Day 2: Many excursions nearby

Steps: Parque Nacional Volcán Masaya, Laguna De Apoyo, Masaya, Granada, Reserva Nacional Volcán Mombacho

Granada. From the city of Granada many excursions are possible on the day around, such as: Las Isletas de Granada (many small islands on the lake), in the national park of the volcano Masaya, hike the Mombacho volcano, or a little bit of fun on one of the beautiful beaches of the Apoyo lagoon. Do not go to the crafts villages of the Pueblos Blancos, we have reserved it for the end of stay, to make your last purchases of souvenirs.

Day 3: Directorate Ometepe

Steps: Granada, Moyogalpa, Playa Santo Domingo, Rivas, Santo Domingo

Ometepe. Then continue your path towards the famous volcanic island of Ometepe, on Lake Nicaragua. From Granada, catch a bus for Rivas in the morning. From Rivas take a taxi for San Jorge where you can embark on a boat that will take you to the island of Ometepe, more accurately, at the level of Moyogalpa village. Rest there if the night is already there, if not go directly to one of the hotels at the beach level of Santo Domingo (more beautiful beach of the island).

Day 4: Exploring the Island

. The most sporty will choose to go to the ascent of one of the two volcanoes. We advise you to rent a scooter so that you can move on the island and start exploring. Many activities are possible: canoeing, hiking, cycling, rural tourism, archaeological sites...

Day 5: Volcanoes and...

Steps: Moyogalpa, Playa Santo Domingo

Ometepe. You can also rest by the lake or the Ojo de Agua basin. Do not miss the magnificent spectacle of sunsets, from Punta Jesús María, for example.

Places of interest :
OJO DE AGUA / PUNTA JESÚS MARÍA

Day 6: The Surfers'Paradise

Steps: San Juan Del Sur

San Juan del Sur. Leave the island of Ometepe to join the Pacific coast, the surfers paradise! San Juan del Sur is certainly the most popular city of the coast for surfing practice... but also (especially?) for its very festive atmosphere. But rest assured, if you want to be in a quieter atmosphere, simply choose one of the beaches nearby.

Day 7: Between two waves

Steps: San Juan Del Sur, Playa Popoyo

San Juan del Sur. Sports on the beach, or on the beach, from the most sporty to the idle, all travelers should find their happiness... except perhaps those who don't appreciate the very (too much) atmosphere? If so, we suggest you go to the beaches of Popoyo, more north (you will not be able to access it directly from San Juan del Sur, you will have to pass through Tola).

Day 8: It's up to you!

Steps: Managua, Masaya, León

Leon or Masaya. To complete the stay, we offer to those who wish in particular to buy many souvenir gifts to move towards Masaya and take the time to arduate its market and those of the villages around (Pueblos blancos). For others who want sports and/or museum, go to Leon (2 h from Managua).

Day 9: Shopping or excursions?

Steps: León, Masaya, Volcán Cerro Negro

Leon or Masaya. Continue shopping in Masaya. For those who have opted for Leon, the most popular excursion is certainly the descent on the black sand of the slopes of the volcano Cerro Negro, but you can also go hiking on other volcanoes around the Cordillera of the Maribios. Museum lovers must not miss that of the famous Nicaraguan poet, Ruben Dario.

Day 10: Return to the capital

Steps: Managua

Managua. Return to the capital to catch your return flight. All good things have an end...
