Day 1: In Ille-et-Vilaine

Steps: Rennes

Go to Rennes to discover its half-timbered houses and its street-art frescoes. Then go to the Champs libres: the well-designed museum of Brittany will tell you the essential of its history. For science lovers, opt for a session at the Planetarium or a visit to Merlin's Laboratory, a place for fun experiments.

Day 2: In Côtes-d'Armor

Steps: Perros-Guirec

Head for the Côtes-d'Armor, and more specifically the Pink Granite region. In Perros-Guirec, embark on a tour of the Sept-Îles, France's largest seabird reserve. You'll see France's only colony of gannets, massed by the thousands on an islet. In the afternoon, explore the superb granite chaos of Ploumanac'h, with its picturesque rock formations. At the end of a busy day, lay down your towels on the beach of Saint-Guirec.

Day 3: In Finistère

Steps: Brest, Plougonvelin

Take a day trip to Brest for a visit to Océanopolis, a must-see. After lunch, head for Fort de Bertheaume in Plougonvelin, for a treasure hunt or a via ferrata among the rocks. Finish the day at nearby Pointe Saint-Mathieu: explore the ruins of the abbey, then climb to the top of its lighthouse to admire the panorama.

Day 4: In Morbihan

Steps: Lorient

Spend the day in the former submarine base of Lorient, converted into a tourist and nautical center. There is plenty to do: start with the submarine museum and its real submersible. Then stroll along the quays to admire the giant multihulls and the famous Pen Duick of Eric Tabarly. After lunch, visit the Cité de la voile, a fun exhibition dedicated to ocean racing. You can even go for a sailboat ride in the harbor, with a skipper!
